Algonquins called it The Trembling Mountain, and its impressive stature (the highest in the Laurentians) made an impression on Native Americans and early European settlers alike. In 1938, Joe Ryan, an eccentric Philadelphia millionaire, visited mount tremblant with his wife Mary. During his first viewing of the area from the top of Mt.mount tremblant, a vision of the perfect mountain resort overtook him. With the assistance of the local priest, Curé Hector Deslauriers, the resort began to take form. Joe's ultimate goal was to make the mountain, the lake and the views available to all. In 1991, Intrawest representatives flew in from British Columbia to assess Joe Ryan's legacy, recognised the mountain's vast potential, and acquired the resort. The pedestrian village was designed to celebrate Québec life and architecture, and three distinct neighbourhoods were created in and around the village. Look closely at building names as you stroll our village, hike the trails or ski our slopes: references to many Québecois traditions and characters who played decisive roles in mount tremblant's history and evolution can be found.
